Wellness care-"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" That saying holds true for horses also. As part of our routine care we provide vaccinations, faecal egg count testing and deworming, and dental care.
Time of Need Care - We offer care for your horse in case of medical colic, sickness, lameness, injury, metabolic problems, or chronic illness. We have an in-house laboratory, and can run most tests within an hour or two of the consultation. Should we send any samples to an external laboratory, results are obtained within 24 hours. Emergency care for our regular clients is provided on a 24-hour basis.
Pre-purchase Examinations - An extensive physical examination, including a thorough lameness evaluation with flexion tests, and neurologic examination is offered by us prior to purchasing a horse. The information gathered is used by the prospective buyer and/or agent to determine whether the horse will be serviceable for it's intended use.
Geriatric Care - Aged horses can have sub-clinical health care issues that can be identified and treated before they become a problem. If your horse is over 15 years of age we recommend a complete physical examination and blood testing to establish baseline values. It is also important to take extra notice in their teeth as older horses may need a dental more regularly.
Lameness Examination - Evaluate the locomotion of your horse. We use a variety of techniques to identify the source(s) of lameness including physical examination and palpation, flexion tests, and joint and nerve blocks. Radiography, ultrasound, and laboratory tests help us to further evaluate the source of your horse's lameness.
Surgery - Standing or recumbent surgery of the horse is performed for castration, biopsy, hernia and laceration repair. More complicated procedures may be referred to a specialist.
Diagnostic Imaging - Our portable X-ray machine makes it easy to obtain radiographic images out in the field to make a rapid diagnosis. It assists in the diagnosis of lower limb conditions and also used in specific dental and respiratory cases. A portable ultrasound machine is used for routine monitoring of reproductive cycles and diagnosis of pregnancy.
Specialised Procedures:
Equine Dentistry - We perform complete dentistry with the safety provided by the mobile stocks and PowerFloat, including Performance Float and Balance, wolf tooth removal, bit seating, molar extractions, and dental radiography, as well as more specialised procedures. Please see more details on Equine Dentistry here
Tonometry - This is a procedure that measures the intraocular pressure of the eyeball and is useful in detecting serious eye conditions such as glaucoma and uveitis.
Allergy Testing/Desensitization - Horses commonly suffer from allergies, and soemthign you may think is classical "Queensland itch" may in fact be an allergy to a feed. We provide a blood test panel for most of the common allergens, including grasses, pollens, dust, insects, and various types of feed to diagnose the source of allergy. These results can then be used deswign a specific course of desensitising injections. Most horses show a good response to the desensitising therapy, curing them or at the very least significantly alleviating the symptoms of their allergy.
