About Us

At the Old Mill Veterinary Surgery we pride ourselves on the level of care we provide our patients, and our friendly and personal customer service. We see ourselves very much as part of the community, and regularly participate in the local events.

Our practice team includes 4 veterinarians and 5 veterinary nursing staff. Our staff regularly attend continuing professional education courses to update their skills and knowledge, as we are committed to providing the highest standard of care for your pet.

Our Veterinarians

Dr Slade Walker BVSc (Hons) MACVSc (Equine Dentistry)

Slade is the practice principal and mainly an equine veterinarian. Slade graduated from University of Queensland in 1999 and is a true mixed practitioner, seeing some small animal and farm animal consultations as well. Slade has post-graduate qualifications in Equine Dentistry, having gained Membership to the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists by examination and is very passionate about providing the safest and best possible routine dental care for horses, as well as handling the more complicated referral cases from other veterinarians. With these qualifications in Equine Dentistry, Slade is one of eleven veterinarians who have attained this level in Australia. In his spare time, Slade enjoys tennis and gardening.

Dr Annika Oksa Walker BSc BVMS (Hons) MACVSc (Veterinary Pathology)

After graduating from Murdoch University in 2005, Annika completed a small animal internship at Brisbane Veterinary Specialist Centre, and developed a special interest in oncology. She has gained further qualifications in this field by completing a 12-month Distance Education Course in Medical Oncology through the University of Sydney. Annika then returned to her alma mater, Murdoch University, to do a residency in Veterinary Pathology, and gained Membership to the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists by examination in 2009. She interprets and advises on all of the Old Mill's in-house diagnostic procedures, and performs cytology, haematology, biochemistry, urinalysis and faecal analysis tests, as well as histopathology within the clinic's comprehensive labaratory. Annika is currently conducting ground breaking research in to the genetics of canine lymphoma and is aiming to complete a PhD in 2012.

Dr Tania Bishop BVSc (Hons) MACVSc (Avian Health)

Tania graduated from the University of Queensland in 1999. She gained Membership to the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Avian Medicine in 2006 and is currently enrolled in a Master in Veterinary Science in Conservation Medicine through Murdoch University. Tania is a very experienced avian and exotics practitioner, having previously worked at Australia Zoo, Currumbin Sanctuary and Dreamworld. She has lectured for the University of Queensland in reptile medicine and surgery and wildlife anatomy and physiology. Along with the small animal consultations, she regularly sees some of the more unusual pets people might have, including snakes, lizards, turtles, guinea pigs, and of course birds. Tania enjoys photography, skiing, hiking and rockclimbing with her family.

Dr Lucy Crane BVetMed MRCVS

Lucy graduated from the Royal Veterinary College of London in 2009. She spent three months volunteering her skills at a local veterinary charity in Morocco mainly treating working donkeys, horses and mules. She then chased the sun to Australia to get a real feel for a mixed rural practice. Lucy is a keen mixed practitioner, with a special interest in equine medicine, reproduction and emergency cases after getting a taste whilst working at Pet ER, an emergency practice in the city. In her spare time, Lucy enjoys spending time at the beach and travelling the coast on her weekends off.
